Minimum Wage |
Many of you are living in a fool's paradise with your big houses and cars and credit card bills. Life is really good for you, but you also know that it only takes a few strokes of bad luck for the whole house of cards to fall down and leave you with less than nothing. What you gonna do when the bosses turn they backs on you? What if the black mark of the bosses is scrawled on your permanent record? No more cushy jobs, instead you are sending out resumes, facing rejection. How golden is your parachute? The problem is that the unions have taught you that we white collar workers are not invited to the table when anyone gets anywhere with the bosses. The unions have led us to believe that we are the bosses, and the bosses have given us the same idea, too, except for when layoff time comes around, or if you get to be a certain age. By making everyone in business the boss of someone else the top brass have created a huge division in the work place between the people who don't boss anyone at all and all the rest of us who 'lead teams' or manage team leaders, until you have the typical situation where you identify with the bosses even though you only have a few people under you but your boss has a boss who is also your boss, and that boss has a boss, and onward and upward until you finally get many levels upward to where the real bosses are laughing at the lot of you, watching you pretend you actually have boss status in the real world. But guess what? You are in the paycheck party, too. God forbid anything bad should ever happen to you, but you know in your heart of hearts that there's nothing stopping it from happening to you and no real guarantee outside of a legal contract (which most of us don't have) that you will get any kind of severance pay should worse come to worse and the company you work for goes under or gets sold to another company where they already have twelve other people doing your job. Since I started the paycheck party an amazing thing has happened that I could never have forseen: I get tons of emails from high level, successful executives who suddenly find themselves jobless and want to ask me what the law concerning severance pay is and what they can do to get what's coming to them. They tell me about their bosses making collosal bonuses as the companies they slaved for go under, or get sold. And they write me, some guy with a web page and too much time on his hands, what the laws say about severance pay! There is no law on the books that says you get severence pay, I tell them. That's what the paycheck party is all about. Voting for the one candidate with the balls and brains to face up to the corporate masters who fund his campaigns and write his laws for him and say, 'I don't need you to get elected! If I've got the paycheck party behind me, I've got everyone who goes to work every day in this entire country behind me! So I'm going to start promising them laws they need to protect them from you.'
